ANTHROPOLOGY WEEK 2015

VAS has decided to  create a week-long celebration of all things Anthropology in prepartation for the annual Anthropology Day! National Anthropology Day is always the third Thursday in February. This year it was February 18th. Below are a list of events we had to help make the discipline of Anthropology more relevant, practical and understood by the UVa community. VAS will continue this new tradition every year. Please check out the amazing Cav Daily article written  about our first Anthropology Week, as well as the Facebook Page and pictures. Be on the look out for next year and how you can get involved!!

Sunday, February 14th: Painting Beta Bridge
Join us at 7:30 to repaint Beta Bridge and get the publicity started for Anthropology Day! A google doc will be sent out soon for sign ups, and feel free to contribute any ideas for the design.

Monday, February 15th: "Anthropology is..."

Sign up for or stop by tabling at Newcomb 2nd Floor outside the dining hall from 11-1. We will have a chalkboard with the prompt, "Anthropology is.." for passerby to fill out and us to post on the Facebook page. I'm sure all of you have been asked (or may yourself be asking) "what exactly is anthropology??", so we're expecting to get some entertaining results. RESCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY DUE TO SNOW.

Tuesday, February 16th: "Ya Dig?"
Ever dream of discovering the remnants of societies long past? Join VAS from 11am-2pm for a mini dig on Tuesday February 16! Search through the sands for artifacts, and learn a bit more about what it's like to be a real-life archaeologist! Ya dig? (Candy provided.) LOCATION MOVED TO 2ND FLOOR OF NEWCOMB

Wednesday, February 17th: "Cannibal Tours"
Join VAS and GDO from 7-9pm in Brooks Hall Commons for a documentary screening of Cannibal Tours followed by a brief discussion. When tourists journey to the furthermost reaches of the Sepik River in Papua New Guinea, is it the indigenous tribespeople or the white visitors who are the cultural oddity? (Food provided.)
