How To Become A Member of VAS

VAS is currently working on defining and remodeling the criteria of what it means to be a member of VAS; therefore, this page will constatntly be updating as criteria changes. Always contact our membership co-chairs, Nikki (nlg8ej@virginia.edu) and Bridgette (bkd2uh@virginia.edu) for the most update information on how to join. Membership:

All declared anthropology and archeology majors at the University of Virginia are constitutional members of the Virginia Anthropology Society. Upon declaration you are put on our mailing listserv and sent the FireWalker newsletter, and our events but you are labeled as “inactive.”  An active membership is open to all regardless of age (can be undergraduate or graduate student), major (can be any major) or financial status (more details to follow).

 

To become an active member of VAS you must:

(1) Attend a minimum of 3 VAS events

(2) Chalk and flyer for at least 1 VAS event

 

 Membership Chairs are in charge of keeping count so please make sure to contact them with any questions or see them at meetings for attendance. Active membership includes but not limited to voting, access to committee and executive board memberships, discounts on certain events and t-shirts, special emails regarding select professional and educational opportunities. VAS is currently creating for next year four, new committees: (1) “Let’s Have Dinner and Talk About Death” Planning committee which will be active in planning the dinner series in Fall and during Spring plan “Rite of Passage”/ “Coming of Age” dinner series which will be led by the Vice President; (2) Tradition and Practice committee led by Membership Chairs; (3) Alumni Networking Committee lead by Outreach Chair; and (4) Fundraising Committee lead by the Treasurer.  

 

All active, inactive, professors, and non-members are warmly welcomed and encouraged to attend our meetings, events, and excursions. We look forward to seeing and meeting each and every one of you soon!
